Celebration!

What is going well in your ministry and your life that we can celebrate? How will you take time out to celebrate?

  1. For probably 20 years, my husband has been on some form of anphetamine for his ADD. Recently, because of the side-affects and his health, he quit taking them. The doctor was unsure, but the results have been wonderful. He is so much easier to be around and even calmer, if that makes any sense. We are having longer conversations and just enjoying being together again. Today we plan to work in the yard together and take the day away from our work. I love gardening, but it has always been my world (although he is the horticulturist) and I really appreciate that we will be sharing this.

  2. I love my church! It's great to finally be able to say that after 2 years of misery in my previous appointment. I held a contemplative Lenten spiritual retreat last week and not only had a good turn out but the people found the experience enriching and renewing. The following day in church people lifted the retreat up as a praise during worship and I overheard people talking about how great it was during fellowship. It's fantastic to be at a church where people are willing to try something new.

Personally, I'm looking forward to "vacation" next week. I will be going on the Wesley Heritage Tour. I love England (been there twice) and being a history nerd I'm looking forward to the education part of the trip. I'll see ya there Darcy! (Will miss having Karen with us.)

  3. I am thrilled with all the new people that God is bringing our way! Having been through a "slump" in attendance over the last year, this is very exciting. God is definitely answering prayers!

  4. OK - I guess I have stalled as long as I could but given we will be together on Thursday, I guess I can stall no longer. :-) Truth be told, I had to think long and hard on this one, which is (in and of itself), not a terribly good omen! I guess I have been so busy I have not been able to really celebrate or even see things that deserve and need to be celebrated. But the good news is that we (finally) have hired a Store Manager at the Free Store. He was the #1 volunteer and really earned the position already. But even though things are getting better in terms of time and workload, things will not really bear some semblance of normalcy until after Easter.

But to cut to the chase, I celebrate the hiring of Jerome as Store Manager at the Free Store so I can devote more time to my first Lenten and Easter season with the church. I am trying to enjoy the relationships I am forming with people at both the church and the Free Store, but it takes time even to do that and for the first time this year (2011), I actually have the time to treasure and begin to celebrate those relationships. (Celebration is sitting down over a cup of tea or coffee, or even just pausing in the sanctuary or hallway to share conversation around something other than a church meeting or event, or the hours of operation at the Free Store).

See you all on the 14th! :-)

  5. Hey! Just a clarification regarding the 14th: I know we are planning to meet over lunch. Are we also planning to continue the conversation afterwards? I will drive separately if we are meeting afterwards, but I have the offer for carpooling if we are only planning to meet during lunch. I ABSOLUTELY have no problem staying afterwards, but don't want to pass up a chance to carpool if we are not planning to meet afterwards as well. Thanks and see you Thursday!
